I like this idea.. there can be humorous elements in it, and yet, it's not all just stupid.

the brain amputation part especially is something I like. instead of always putting machine parts into humans, this idea that we put human parts into machines is very interesting.

it also gives us possibility to use mad professors and laboratios with huge tanks and glass jars filled with brains, and tubes going into a big machine .. aah.. it would be great! :)

there could be also black market for brains.. a sub quest perhaps? tux has to track down the leader of this brain market and stop the business.. (there's also a little bridge to the real world here, as you all know I'm sure, there are places where people sell human organs.. nasty business...)

Maybe that could be used as a "here's what happened" revelation to Tux at some point in the game... A.H.

The real happenings and what isn't known at game start or to ordinary ingame non-player characters

In a far future universe, an almighty Corporation 'Monopoly Systems' controlled the market for operating systems.

Let's say before they took over power, the MS introduced some revolutionary artificial intelligence (AI). Of course this AI was built into *everything* via some say 'Service Pack 19'. Now that AI wasn't so flawless at all. Some machines went totally out of control, not even following it's basic principles any more. Of course, the MS could still override the machine behavior by simply manually remote-controlling the bot with some worker who then would steer the bot from the distance. Or it would work even better, if some brain could be amputated and fully integrated into the control mechanism.

There were some incidents of malfunction, that got some people killed and the like. To avoid PR problems, the MS would switch all machines with major problems being reported to manual control, at least until the real reason for the buggy behavior could be found and a new service pack applied. All would be well. But then the amount of bug reports grew and grew, unexpectedly fast. Something needed to be done. They didn't have any workforce left. Some new brains were required. Only until the bug would be fixed, which could be any time soon and without raising too much attention. So they captures some bums, deadbeats and loafers to take their brains and use them for new remote controls of bot AIs? reported broken. Even that had to be automated. Some bots would do the dirty work. Everything on track again. Someone from inside then must have leaked the proceedings. A big scandal and in the sequel maybe the destruction of the whole company couldn't be risked. They had to take over power right then. It was planned before, but they never did it, because effectively, they exercised a great deal of power without openly stating it.

Stupid bots though, they took more loafers, but when they couldn't find any other people that would be 'easy to get without the public noticing it', they took the MS patching division itself, because they were inside the MS areas already and that would be safe from the press. Of course after that, it became even worse. Preople reported bots hunting for brains as buggy bots, causing more bug reports, causing more bots to swarm out for new brains to use in order to replace the AI of the other bots. Things quickly went out of control after that. The 'Great Assault' of the bots had started. hehe

Of course, there's nobody to fix anything any more inside the MS right now. Too bad. Still the bots are everywhere.
